About Us

International Zheng He Academy

The establishment of the International Zheng He Research Academy originated from the International Zheng He Conference held in Malacca in 2018, followed by lengthy preparatory work carried out by relevant authorities. The Academy’s mission is to promote Zheng He’s spirit of harmony, peace and friendship, advance historical, archaeological and cultural research related to Zheng He, disseminate his spirit overseas, and facilitate friendly exchanges between China and countries along the Belt and Road Initiative.

The International Zheng He Research Academy is primarily an international non-profit alliance transcending national boundaries, ethnic groups, religions and political ideologies. Beyond safeguarding the harmonious development of humanity, the Academy was proposed to foster interaction, outreach, dialogue and action within a framework of cross-border and cross-cultural integration. Across all times and regions, it seeks to cultivate profound mutual understanding and compassion among individuals, communities, ethnic groups and nations worldwide.

Our Facilities

Exhibition Hall (1st Floor)

The hall houses over 20,000 volumes from Dr. Tan Tat Seng’s private collection and various publications themed on Zheng He culture. These resources encourage the public to read extensively and deepen their knowledge of Zheng He’s heritage.

Café (Sugar Art)

A bright, tranquil lounge where sharing sessions featuring stories of Zheng He are held from time to time.

Exhibition Hall (2nd Floor)

Spacious premises on the second floor, ideal for hosting exhibitions and virtual conferences.

国际郑和研究院现任院长

Dean Zhang is a dedicated promoter of cultural and educational events for Malaysia’s multiracial society. In 2000, His Royal Highness the Sultan of Johor bestowed upon him the P.I.S Medal for Outstanding Contributions to Education. He consistently encourages current students and alumni of the Malay Studies Department to collaborate closely with Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (Malaysia’s National Language Institute) to facilitate cross-cultural exchange. He has translated landmark literary masterpieces from both Chinese and Malay literary circles, which earned him the 2015 Outstanding Chinese Contribution to Malay Language and Literature Award from the Department of National Heritage Malaysia.

In acknowledgement of his decades-long commitment to professional training for Malay language educators and his relentless efforts to advance Malaysia’s private higher education sector, the United Chinese School Teachers’ Association of Malaysia honoured him with the Sim Mow Yu Teacher Award in 2022. Over the course of his career, Dean Zhang has published multiple Malay-Chinese dictionaries, as well as standard templates for official correspondence drafted by executive secretaries of Chinese community organisations.
